How we did in our review and the direction it took us
In early 2021, ERO visited between lockdowns. This was a surprise Aka Rangi (full) review, when we were only due an Aka Nuku (compliance), as this was our first review under new management.
We were happy to go for full review as despite the chaotic year of lockdowns in 2020, we knew we had great processes and systems for compliance management and record keeping and had carried out a lot of internal evaluation and centre development in reducing group sizes, introducing new curriculum planning, surveying families, developing our philosophy and we were feeling confident and heading in a great direction. We had a clear strategic plan in place for the future and were happy on the journey.
We were glad we did the full Aka Rangi review and were pleased with the outcome. It was an amazing opportunity to discuss our journey with the reviewers and get feedback. Together with ERO we agreed two focusses for the next three years. These were to increase opportunities for parents and whānau to contribute to the curriculum, and to enhance teaching practices to provide an individualised, culturally responsive learning programme for all children.
We are well on this path, with a culturally rich curriculum and whānau contributing in beautiful ways, sharing their food, language, music and culture, not just during events and celebrations, but everyday. We know who we are. This really is home to us, our tamariki and whānau and we are exceptionally proud of our team.
